may long weekend

So the may long weekend is over and it turned out to great weather although it is now raining quite hard. D and I took three days off to go to Vancouver for a friends wedding. I have known her since we were 5 and started kindergarten together. Lots of school, memories and moves later we are still friends. She works for the UN right now and is married to a British fellow who is winding down a 22 years of service in HMA. They have a house in England where they will live.
We went down after work on wednesday and got in late. We spent a sunny day walking downtown and shopping. We went down to Granville Island and meandered thru the market and sampled some beer at the brewery. I died about 530 though leaving Doug to wander around on his own for the evening. Friday morning we got ready and indulged in Starbucks. We headed to the park early and found the spot fairly easily. The park does not look as bad as I thought it could be after the big wind storm. I know so many people are moaning about the loss of trees but it is a natural cycle. We met lots of the family, old friends, and some new people. It was sunny and beautiful, we all got sunburned during pictures. We had a great dinner; most of our table had salmon. Afterwards we all headed down to the beach and the kids had a swim. Afterwards we went downtown with a friend; he found a room in our hotel. We had a great dinner at an indian restaurant and then some drinks at the Fog N Suds.
Saturday we went to a lunch at the brides cousins and then headed to visit some of D's family before heading back.

A sunny day off

Yesterday afternoon I got off of work and when I got home our neighbor invited us to a BBQ that evening. So we went and got some drinks (non-alchoholic) and some meat for the grill and went over. There were a number of people there I have seen around and a few that I know. I went home a bit early to relax in the tub and have a good read in my book. Ahhhhhhhhhh after a busy week it was great.
Work has been busy with spring cleaning and painting and finding things to have done by a girl working off her dogs stay. Problem is it really just made more work for me having to clean up after her and keep an eye on her. Copuldn\t really trust her to do a good enough job on anything. And we have been under staffed although they have finally hired someone. I am hoping like mad it will work out. But they did know in February that the other girl only wants to work as a secondary person when we are busy as she is back to full time at her other job. On the plus side I am full time again and they have hired someone to work around my days off. So I have said I want sunday and mondays off so now I can go to Church once again. I am sure they all think there that I have dropped off the edge of the earth.
Had a good run up at the gravel pit with the dogs and Dad today. He is home laid off for a week or so. So he has sprung Mom's dogs from the joint for a bit. They are happy to be home and have their servant around for a bit. Had lunch and dinner out. I have been scrapbooking D's Japan pictures. I have moved them in the past from a dumpy bad to a box in our closet but was tired of them being there and needed a project to work on. I figured that after seven years he probably was not ever going to actually get around to doing anything with them. So that has kept me entertained for a bit. Now the next project hmmm...
We are headed down to Vancouver the may long weekend for a friends wedding. I am looking forward to a few days away and then a couple days off when I get back. It will be great to see the other people I know there. I have been semi trying to loose weight for that weekend so that I look good. Vain yes but that's ok once in a while. But I have lost 21 pounds and am looking to loose about 9 more.
